Most of his life is inextricably linked with Vector: Alexander Borisovich has been working at the Center since 1979. During this time, he worked his way up from a junior researcher to the head of the department. 

Alexander Ryzhikov is actively working on modeling epidemics of socially significant and especially dangerous infections, and monitors epidemiological situations in Russia and around the world. The scientist annually participates in the determination of vaccine strains at the meetings of the commission of the World Health Organization. 

With the participation of Alexander Ryzhikov and under his leadership, more than 100 scientific research works were carried out on optimizing the cultivation of animal cells and viruses, modeling epidemic processes and infection development processes, and the structural and functional organization of proteins. 

Alexander Ryzhikov is the author of more than 120 scientific papers. 

During his work at the SSC of the World Bank "Vector" of Rospotrebnadzor, he was repeatedly encouraged by the diplomas and commendations of the Center, has the gratitude of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, in 2016 he was encouraged by the Honorary Diploma of the Governor of the Novosibirsk region. In 2017, Alexander Ryzhikov was awarded the title of "Honorary Worker of the State Research Center of the World Bank "Vector" with the award of a badge. 

By Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 428-r dated December 12, 2017, Alexander Borisovich was awarded a Certificate of Honor from the President of the Russian Federation for his services in the development of Russian-Guinean scientific and technical cooperation in the field of epidemiology, prevention, and monitoring of bacterial and viral infections in the Republic of Guinea.

In 2022, for conscientious and impeccable work, active work, he was awarded the commemorative medal "100 years of the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service of Russia".
